In 1917, Seth Hukum Chand set up the first ever Indian mill in Kolkata. At that point of time, jute industry was spread in between the two banks of river Hooghly. But after independence, due to the riots and political turmoil, many factories were closed.Another reason of closing the jute factories were the excessive use of plastic products. After the independence, people started to use plastic products. At certain point of time, people completely stopped the use of jute products.
